Ernie pays tribute to ‘caddie legend’ Dave Renwick

05 Feb

Ernie was among many who wore a black ribbon during the Omega Dubai Desert Classic to remember Dave Renwick, who passed away this week.

“This was such sad news, said Ernie. “Like many of the players of my generation, I knew Dave very well. When I came out on Tour as a youngster in the early 90s, he was a legend already as both a caddie and a person – he won Major Championships with three different players and not many caddies can say that.”

Ernie went on to say, “Davie and I had lots of great times together. Whether we were in the US, Europe or Asia, he was a very good friend of mine. When he caddied for Jose [Maria Olazabal] and Vijay [Singh], we played so many practice rounds together. Myself and Vijay were both competing at a really high level in those days and Dave was on his bag. He was a great guy and a very straightforward man. There was no hiding. He was a man of few words until you got him going. He led by example the way he caddied and the way he carried himself. He was just a fantastic guy. He’ll be sadly missed by a lot of people in golf.”
