EEFF’s Kelly Erasmus wins SA’s biggest junior tournament

20 Dec

Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation (EEFF) member Kelly Erasmus from Durbanville Golf Club displayed her special golf talent by winning the biggest amateur tournament for junior girls in South Africa at Pearl Valley Estate near Franschhoek in April.

The 16-year-old from Fairmont High won the Nomads SA Girls Rose Bowl finishing two shots ahead of fellow EEFF member Izel Pieters from Nelspruit GC.

Going into the final round, Pieters lead the field by one stroke from Korea’s Ji Sun Kang and SA Girls’ Champion Bianca Theron. Both Izel and Kang had up-and-down rounds, while Erasmus played steady par golf until she registered her first birdie of the day on the 9th hole. She then added another two birdies to her scorecard on the back nine, offset by two bogeys, to shoot 71 following rounds of 75, 70.

“This is without a doubt the biggest win of my career,” Erasmus said. “I am very happy with the way I played. My overall game was solid. I hit the ball very well and I am very pleased how I handled the greens at Pearl Valley.”

Everyone at the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation congratulates Kelly on this fantastic win. Ernie commented, “every time I hear about one of our members winning a tournament it makes me happy. I’m so proud of them.”
