Ernie’s Latest News – 28 April

28 Apr

Summer has definitely arrived here in South Florida with some serious heat and I had a wonderful week off, enjoying some solid sessions on the range and in the gym, and spending quality time with the family.

For those of you following on Twitter you will see I was at the Minor League Baseball locally with my son Ben. He absolutely loves to watch and it is great to be able to make these games with a nice laid-back atmosphere. I also get to play one of my other loves, tennis, with Samantha and she likes to keep me fit out there!

Elsewhere, as we head to the end of Autism Awareness Month, there were lots of other activities and events. One in particular was last Thursday’s Craft Beer evening in aid of Els for Autism at the beautiful Old Palm Golf Club, which hosted this year’s Els for Autism Pro Am. Thanks again to everyone at the Club and to all the chefs who came on board and produced wonderful food pairing it with a unique craft beer provided by Fran and the rest of the team at the Tequesta Brewing Company & Twisted Trunk. We really appreciate your support.

If you follow rugby you’ll know that on Saturday the Emirates Lions (my local team who I have supported since I was a kid) dedicated their Super 15 match against the Cheetahs to Els for Autism. All the players wore ‘autism blue’ wristbands, messages were played on the big screen and articles published in the match program, and all the coaching staff wore the blue-and-white Els for Autism pins. These efforts mean so much to everyone at the Foundation and, of course, help spread greater awareness for the cause. Thank you to everyone involved.

And great playing boys. The crowd at Emirates Airline Park, where the Springboks won the 1995 Rugby World Cup, got to enjoy an open and really entertaining game, and more importantly a win; the Lions’ fifth straight win in the Super 15. This team is on a roll. Hopefully they can keep that momentum going in another big match against local rivals the Bulls this coming Saturday.

This week is understandably going to be focused on my golf, as we get ready for an important stretch including The PLAYERS Championship, BMW PGA Championship and the Irish Open at Royal County Down. These are really big events in anyone’s book and we will want to be performing well in all of them individually, but also collectively, as the season heads for more majors and big events over the summer.

Finally, just to say again that we are now into the final week of Autism Awareness Month. The support that has been shown has been great and I want to thank everyone for that. We have also been blessed with wonderful support from people running various ‘giveback’ programs and you have only a few more days to take advantage of some great offers on golf gear and other products, available only through the Els for Autism website. Remember a percentage of the sales go direct to the Foundation, thereby assisting children, young adults and families on the spectrum. Please click here to find out more.
