“Seeing The Bigger Picture”

12 May

THE PLAYERS Championship was my ninth tournament in the last 10 weeks and although my results haven’t been great and I’ve missed too many cuts, for me it’s a case of seeing the bigger picture.

It’s been really nice being out here playing and, now that we’re based in Florida, it’s not really that difficult either. Life is good here, Liezl and the kids are great, and I’m enjoying focusing on the PGA TOUR. I haven’t done this since…well, almost never. All the flying around the world while living in England…that’s not happening again.

My energy level has been good and mentally I feel like I’m in a good space right now. I’m working hard on some things and just trying to get my game back to where I know I can compete. I’m getting there.

The main thing is I’ve got to get used to that short putter under pressure. That’s the big reason why I’m playing so much competitive golf. I can practice my tail off at The Bear’s Club, maybe play Michael Jordan for a bit of cash, and that’s all well and good. But it’s not the same as playing in a tournament. I need to be out here on Tour.

So that’s the plan going forward. I’ll take this week off and it started with a good session on the putting green this Monday with Dr Sherylle Calder #EyeGym.

Then we tee it up in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, which is like a second home for me in more ways than one. After that it’s Jack’s tournament at Muirfield Village, then the US Open at Pinehurst.

Beyond that, my schedule isn’t fixed, but we’re obviously looking at our options. The Scottish Open is always very tempting, if the weather is right. Then it’s the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool – my favourite tournament of the year – followed by a bunch of other great tournaments such as the RBC Canadian Open, WGC – Bridgestone Invitational, PGA Championship, then there’s the Wyndham, which I really like, and then we’re into the FedEx Cup.

So, a lot of golf to play and I’m really looking forward to it.

Just one final thing – big thanks for all your ‘pics in blue’ on Twitter. Today we selected our favourite and Kyle Hershberger will be receiving my Tour golf bag very soon. We’ll have loads of other great giveaways this summer, so follow me @TheBig_Easy and help me raise funds for @ElsForAutism by retweeting #RBCELS
