The RBC Heritage Review

21 Apr

The RBC Heritage presented by Boeing has a great slot on the PGA TOUR schedule and obviously has a wonderful venue in the form of the Harbour Town Links, which is why it’s such a favourite among the players, many of whom come back every year.

This iconic venue is also one of several PGA TOUR stops and Major Championship courses hosting a regional tournament on this year’s Golf Challenge (click here for the full schedule) so that’s maybe your opportunity to see for yourself why so many TOUR pros rave about Harbour Town. You’ll see the attraction pretty quickly, to be fair!

Anyway, a lot of the players say that after an intense week at Augusta, this tournament at Harbour Town is a nice way to de-stress and enjoy more of a relaxed vibe. I get that, but at the same time we’re all here to play hard and try to win this historic golf tournament. I’ve been in the mix a bunch of times over the years. Not this time. Making birdies isn’t the problem. In fact, I’ve notched up 62 birdies and an eagle in my last 14 rounds. It’s just that there are a couple of bad holes in there and I got some bad breaks on Friday that unfortunately cost me, not only in terms of my score but also breaking my momentum. I am taking the positives, though, which is what I’ll continue to do. It’s a case of keep focusing on the process, not necessarily the results, and eventually you’ll see a reward for the hard work that you put in.

That’s going to be the mindset going into my next two weeks away from tournament golf. I’ll be using the time to work hard on my game and stay on top of my fitness levels, which are good right now. The next stretch of tournaments is big, including some of my favourite tournaments of the year, and as always I want to give myself the best chance to play my best golf.

Huge thanks to everyone at the RBC Heritage – my sponsors RBC and Boeing, the players, tournament officials, media and fans – for their collective show of support for autism awareness. And congratulations to my fellow RBC golfing ambassador Jim Furyk on a great win…striking another blow for us 40-somethings! Jim was one of many players to where blue on Friday, which has become the tradition here the past few years, to help shine a light on Autism Awareness Month. Lots of other players did so, too, with many of them also wearing the blue-and-white Els for Autism ribbon on their caps. Thanks again guys.

Please click here to learn more and find out how you, too, can play your part during what remains of Autism Awareness Month. Thanks to the generous support of various companies, we’re able to offer some great products and golf gear through The Els for Autism website, many at a substantial discount off the retail price, with a percentage of all sale proceeds going to the Foundation. My special edition blue lion headcover (pictured below) is among the items.

RBC Heritage 2015 Review2

Away from the golf course there’s just one final thing to mention before I sign off. That is to say it’s an honor to have been nominated in the category of World’s Golf Course Designer of the Year, as part of the 2015 World Golf Awards. If you have the time and the desire to cast a vote, which is in many respects a vote for the whole Ernie Els Design team, then please do click here. We’d obviously be really grateful for the show of support.
