2. Our 2015 Vintages are released
We are excited to introduce the 2015 vintages of the Big Easy Rosé and Ernie Els Sauvignon Blanc. The second release of the Big Easy Rosé follows in the footsteps of the maiden 2014 vintage – a delicate salmon shade with a palate of strawberries and dried flowers, finished by a lemony-fresh finish. The Sauvignon Blanc shows a zingy and bright personality, with a melange of guava, pineapple and lemon curd. The intensely flavoured plate reveals hints of wet earth and sweet peas. The 2015 vintage is one of complexity and depth, albeit a soft and comforting finish.

3. Hat-trick for Ernie Els Wines at Sommelier Selection Awards
Ernie Els Wines was presented three awards at the prestigious ceremony held at the new Open Door Restaurant in Constantia. The Big Easy Red was a show-stopper in the lifestyle category, with the Proprietor’s Syrah and Proprietor’s Cabernet Sauvignon standing proud as Voluptuous Rich Reds. The Sommelier Selection is young and fresh with a unique approach to wine list selection. The panel of sommelier only judges are fun and playful with their wine selection but still serious about the high standard of judging criteria. We will keep you updated on the range of wine dinners and sommelier tastings to follow later this year.

4. Ernie Els Wines partner The Dan Nicholl Show
Ernie Els Wines were thrilled to be invited to be the official wine for The Dan Nicholl Show for season one of one of the freshest additions to Africa’s sports television stalwart, SuperSport’s, acclaimed line-up. One of South Africa’s most recognised media presenters, Dan Nicholl, took the helm of his new lifestyle-themed show and each week welcomed a trio of guests, drawn from both the sporting and entertainment worlds, who joined Dan live in studio for a light-hearted evening of studio banter that introduced South Africa to a new side of these established faces. After having survived being at Dan’s mercy and in the spotlight for the duration of the show, each guest was presented with a twinpack of Ernie Els Wine to go home and enjoy.

5. Ernie Els Wining in the Netherlands
Ernie Els Wines recently sent its new International Marketing Manager, Louw Strydom, on a whirlwind trip throughout Europe to help our clients usher in the European summer with some phenomenal wine in hand. One of the highlights was meeting our Dutch Importer, Mr Albert Hagedoorn, of ‘Kaapswijnhuis’. One of the most noticeable aspects of the trip was the vast number of people who have not only visited South Africa, but more amazingly our cellar at Ernie Els Wines.

Ernie Els Wines has had only a brief tenure of market exposure in the Netherlands, but Albert and his wife, Anita, are part of the plan to improve our presence in the market. Our brand is picking up pace and has a strong following in Amsterdam and the surrounding areas. During the visit, Albert and Anita hosted a tasting of the Ernie Els Wines at ‘Kaapswijnhuis’ in the company of wide mix of interesting individuals. It was a jovial gathering and the wine showed particularly well. Amongst the tasting flight, we showed two vintages of the flagship Bordeaux-style blend, The Ernie Els Signature, namely the 2004 and 2012. The guests were “wowed” by the structure and fruit left in the 2004 vintage. It is testament to how well Cabernet-based red blends from SA can develop in the bottle. The consistency of flavour and character of the wine from 2004 to 2012 was exceptional.

“All in all it was a memorable visit and an even better tasting, which I thoroughly enjoyed,” commented Louw Strydom. “Brand South Africa, along with Ernie Els Wines, is on the rise in the Netherlands and we look forward to hosting another tasting at ‘Kaapswijnhuis’ in the future.”
