Albany

Albany is a new luxury resort community in The Bahamas by Ernie Els, Tavistock Group and Tiger Woods. Albany features an array of amenities for the entire family to enjoy, including an Ernie Els designed championship course and first-class practice facility also designed by Els.

The golf course was officially opened in December 2010. Measuring more than 7,400 yards from ‘the tips’ this Els signature golf course consists five par-5s and five par-3s, with the remaining holes being par-4s. It is very much in the links-style, featuring dunes up to 30 feet in height and not dissimilar to those found on some of the UK’s great coastal layouts. And, as with those classic courses, the ocean winds will be a big factor. The hole routings are designed in such a way as to offer good balance, whatever the wind direction, and there are five separate teeing areas on every hole to make sure that the course is playable for golfers of all standards.

Around the periphery the planting structures are designed to help the course blend in with the natural surroundings. It really looks like it belongs in its environment. “It’s a very special golf course,” comments Ernie. “If I were trying to paint an outline mental picture for anyone, I’d say think of a mix between maybe Royal Birkdale and the Els Club Dubai. The bunkering is another particularly strong feature and is partly inspired by one of my favourite types of golf course, the Australian sand-belt classics such as Royal Melbourne.”

Located on the western end of New Providence Island, seven minutes from Nassau’s international airport, this approximately 600-acre oceanfront community includes a luxury boutique hotel, a mega-yacht marina handling yachts up to 240 feet, a family restaurant, an adult pool and lounge, a fine dining restaurant, water park, kids’ clubhouse, full-service Spa, state-of-the-art fitness center and a future equestrian center. A range of residential offerings is available including cottages, custom home lots and marina residences.
