Through his extensive 30-plus years travels around the globe as a Hall of Fame golfer, Ernie has been exposed to and appreciated some of the world’s greatest wines. In 1999 he decided to pursue his developing passion for fine wine with the creation of Ernie Els Wines. Thoughtfully selected for its prime position in the Golden Triangle of Stellenbosch, the Ernie Els Winery is framed by panoramic views of Cape Town and Table Mountain to the west and Stellenbosch and the Helderberg Mountains to the east.
Since officially opening in 2005, the focus has been on producing a range of wines, with a particular focus on Cabernet Sauvignon. Recent renovations have transformed the winery into an iconic symbol of the Helderberg region and a go-to destination for local and international wine lovers. Modern, contemporary and exclusive, the winery triumphantly expresses our style and generosity and epitomizes the very essence of our place within the Stellenbosch wine region. Ernie Els first became involved in the wine business in the late 1990s. Since then Ernie Els Wines has grown and matured into a successful and multi-award winning enterprise with a magnificent portfolio of South African red wines. Ernie himself is passionate about red wine and is very much involved in the tasting process for all vintages. In partnership with winemaker Louis Strydom their shared passion for red wine is reflected in the quality of the product right across the price ranges.

Louis Strydom
Louis is an exceptionally gifted winemaker and one of the most distinguished and respected names in the South African wine world. He has been part of the Ernie Els Wines team since 1998. His understanding of the terroir and performance levels of these vineyards has been a key ingredient to the success of his wines. The recent triumph of his newest release, 2017 Signature, which received an astounding 95 points (gold) at the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards, is a testament to his continued hard work and skilful craftsmanship. In addition, Louis holds the esteemed position of Chairman of the Cape Winemakers Guild Development Trust. The Restaurant
Savour modern farmhouse cuisine at its finest in a charming open-plan space that extends out onto a terrace with picturesque views of Stellenbosch and the Helderberg mountains. A chic farm-style interior decor echoes the hearty cuisine which changes with the seasons but is always made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Naturally, our knowledgable staff will help you choose the perfect wine accompaniment. The winery’s unique ‘grill-works' dining experience is available on the restaurant terrace on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (weather-dependent and seasonal).

The Trophy Room
A visit to our winery would not be complete without making time to look around this beautifully-appointed trophy room, which is a tribute to Ernie’s extraordinary 30-plus years Hall of Fame career. It includes a timeline of Ernie’s achievements and career wins. There are many of his original trophies and awards on display, alongside interesting items of memorabilia and some iconic photos. It’s a must-see for any golfing aficionado.

The Tasting Room
Make yourself at home in our warm and welcoming tasting room, the perfect setting to relax and enjoy an educated wine tasting presentation. The expansive area extends out onto the wide terrace, with majestic Stellenbosch and Helderberg Mountain views. Tasting boards and other small food plate options are available, a tempting selection of seasonally-inspired dishes to complement and enhance our diverse wine offering.
