Arnold Palmer Review

21 Mar

My performance in last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational continued a pattern that it’s fair to say was pretty much evident throughout the Florida Swing.

I played a lot of good stuff at the Honda, the Valspar and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but each week I was slightly undone by a couple of bad holes here and there. That can easily happen on these tough Florida layouts, but still it’s frustrating. It checks your momentum, stops you developing any of that competitive rhythm that I sometimes refer to. And it showed-up in my results, which I don’t think were an accurate reflection of the state of my game in recent weeks.

Anyway, that’s done. After nine tournaments in 11 weeks, played across three different continents, it’ll be nice to have a week off at home with the family. We’re blessed with incredible facilities here at the Bear’s Club, so I’ll obviously spend some time working on my game and also my fitness. But at the same time, I want to make sure I relax and re-charge the batteries so I can get ready to give it 100 per cent in my next stretch of tournaments. That starts with the Shell Houston Open, followed by The Masters and then the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town. Three great stops, three great opportunities to get the results I know I’m capable of. More on that in next week’s report.

For the time being, I just want to thank Mr Palmer for hosting another wonderful tournament at Bay Hill. It’s an honour for all of us to be a part of such a great event and to support the Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation, which has done so much good work for worthy causes over the last half-century. And obviously congrats to Jason Day on a superb wire-to-wire win. He would have found, as I did, that collecting the trophy from one of the game’s true legends is a really special moment. The same can be said for winning your national title, which is what SSP Chawrasia did in last week’s Hero Indian Open. Well done to him, too.

Also, I have to give a quick shout-out for my team, the Emirates Golden Lions, who got back to winning ways against our big rivals the Cheetahs in Johannesburg at the weekend. Well played guys. The next game is against the Crusaders, also in Johannesburg, on Friday 1 April. I’m in Houston that week but will be sure to try to catch the action on television.

Finally, just a brief reminder that we’ve launched a new initiative to continue the buzz – and the fundraising – after Rickie Fowler’s incredible hole-in-one at this month’s eighth Annual Wine Spectator and Cigar Aficionado Els for Autism Pro Am. Please click here for more information. We’d love to have your support. And it’s not long now before our 2016 Golf Challenge gets underway at Trump National Doral on May 9th, with the opportunity to take part in any one of 23 regional tournaments held at some of North America’s finest golf courses.
