CIMB Classic Review

02 Nov

We’re at the start of a new PGA TOUR season already with me opening my account at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour.

The tournament marked the end of a busy trip to Asia, but I have to say it seemed fitting to finish in Malaysia, a place that I really enjoy. I have taken in quite a few different cities and countries in the last few weeks and met some amazing people and experienced new cultures, so while it has been busy it has certainly been a trip that I will always remember.

Once again the CIMB Classic was a great tournament and there were lots of birdies and eagles for the fans at the course and those watching at home to enjoy, especially the last couple of holes coming in for winner Justin Thomas. And like all of the players, I enjoy the passion of the fans here and love playing tournaments in Asia, even more so in my capacity as an ambassador for the Asian Tour. I’ve been playing here for a long time now – more than two decades – and it is great to see the game grow.

Summing up my week I played some good golf overall, but just struggled a little bit with consistency. I was making some good scores then unfortunately a few untimely bogeys that really seemed to stop my momentum. I am excited about the new season, though, and there was some good stuff in there and I will be working hard these next two weeks before my next event, the Australian Masters.

The last month has been amazing for sports fans with the Rugby World Cup, World Series in Baseball, International Cricket and much more. Last weekend saw the final two matches in the Rugby World Cup, which I enjoyed enormously. South Africa took third place with a win over Argentina and then the (New Zealand) All Blacks beat Australia in a great final. It was also the last tournament for many great players who have retired from International Rugby. It has been a pleasure to watch players like Victor Matfield, Jean de Villiers, Paul O’Connell and Dan Carter play this great game and make it look so easy at times. I wish them all the best in the next chapter of their careers.

And talking of legends that made it look easy at times, happy birthday again to Gary Player who turned 80 on Sunday. A great man and a great golfer.

That’s it for now. I’ll write again soon. In the meantime, you can follow me on Twitter @TheBig_Easy.
