“Playing seven weeks straight”

28 Apr

The Zurich Classic in New Orleans was my fifth straight week on the road, but rather than taking a break now I’m going to keep playing.

It’s fair to say this is a pretty long stretch of tournaments for me, but having missed three cuts in the last five weeks, you can understand my desire to stay out here and try to get something happening. My game is there; I’m just not putting the scores together. It’s frustrating, but you have to stay patient. I’ve been playing this game long enough to know how quickly things can turn around. I feel confident the results will come.

Anyway, big thanks to all the guys at the PGA TOUR, Zurich, RBC and Heritage who in the last two weeks have done so much to help shine a light on autism awareness, especially with the designated ‘Blue Out’ days. I was gutted to miss the Saturday in New Orleans, but watching the coverage on television you could see there was a lot of good, positive activity from players, fans, tournament staff and the media. We’re grateful to every single person who took the time and the effort to play their part.

As autism awareness month draws to a close, it’s the perfect opportunity for me to thank all my sponsors and partners for their valued contributions in this campaign – in particular to SAP for allowing me to wear the blue-and-white ribbon motif on my hat in place of the SAP logo, and also to Adams, Breitling, Boeing and I-ONICS who really went the extra mile to help us. It’s shocking to think that in the US autism affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys. With these kinds of figures in play, autism is something that society just can’t afford to ignore.

Okay, so moving on to this week, I’m shooting a commercial for Adams Golf here at the Bears Club in Florida today; I’m actually meeting up with the guys right after posting this report. Then we’re heading up to North Carolina on Tuesday to tee it up in this week’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.

It’s my first appearance in this tournament since playing it back-to-back in 2006-07 and I remember being very impressed with the golf course. Some people had compared it to courses like Winged Foot and for me it definitely lived-up to expectations. In some ways it reminded me a lot of the old, traditional-like courses that we play major championships on, so it’s no surprise we’re coming here for the PGA Championship in 2017. It asks some tough questions about your game, especially down the closing stretch of holes they call the ‘Green Mile’.

If you add this week’s Wells Fargo to the following week’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, that’ll make it seven straight tournaments for me without a break. Physically that’s really going some, so all those sessions in the home gym are definitely paying dividends.

I’ll write again soon. In the meantime you can follow me on Twitter @TheBig_Easy.
