Shriners Review & Latest News

09 Nov

It was great to be back in Las Vegas and I enjoyed playing at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

We got out there early on Monday, starting the week playing in Charley Hoffman’s charity pro-am. It was a fun day and great to see so many people supporting their charities. The course was in great shape as well, with the greens rolling beautifully.

We also had a variety of events going on with The Els for Autism Grand Finale in town as well. On Tuesday it was a joy to be able to host one of our #GameOn Autism Golf clinics on the range at TPC Summerlin. We then had a couple of functions on Friday and Saturday, with the amateurs going out and playing their tournament on Saturday. The programming team also hosted a best practices seminar that was well attended and also streamed live online.

For the tournament, I admit that after a nice second round 68 it was a bit frustrating to not be able to push on up the leaderboard over the weekend, but there were stretches of play where I felt very comfortable with my game. I again made a decent number of birdies and really felt like my ball striking was good.

We then left Las Vegas on Sunday evening and flew straight to Cancun to play in this week’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Interestingly for me, this is my first trip to Mexico so that makes it even more interesting to experience a totally new place. Having been traveling for golf my whole life this becomes a rarity so I am looking forward to the week. The course looks to be in great shape, so as I say, I am looking forward to getting the tournament underway.

Finally, a quick mention for all my friends at Sun City on the occasion of this week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, hosted by Gary Player, which for the first time now forms part of the European Tour’s prestigious Final Series. It’s a well-deserved boost for the Sunshine Tour and, of course, it is going to attract a lot of the world’s top players to South Africa over the coming years and provide an ideal showcase for our beautiful country.

The same can be said for all that we’re doing with the South African Open, which itself is going from strength to strength. Trust me, I can’t wait to be there at Glendower in January to host and play in that special tournament.

Okay, that’s it for now. Follow me on Twitter @TheBig_Easy.
